THE MOMENTOUS TIMES IN THE LIFE OF THE CLUB Our skydiving club was established on 24th of February 1995, and originally was named "Air World". All organizers of the club were active members of the Tallinn Air Club. G.Zaitsev, S.Aranson, S.Larens, and U.Shamko formed the first board of the club. Basically, with the establishment of the "Air World" an alternative 2nd skydiving club appeared in Estonia. The main distinction of the club was the jumps with a parachute from the plain L-410 from the height 4km. For a long time the "Air World" remained to be the only skydiving club in the country that rented the L-410 for the jumps from 4km. At first in the "Air World" only certified sportsmen of the Tallinn Air Club origin jumped with a parachute. The place of landing then was the Tallinn airport, later Tallinn itself (Lasnamyae). In 1998, after the proposal of parachutists S.Nelzin and A.Nikiforov, the first Boogie was organized in Pyarnu (Estonia). The guests of the Pyarnu Boogie were the skydivers from Latvia and Finland. Aircrafts L-410(mainly) and AN-28 were used for the jumps. Finnish parachutists proposed to include into the program of the Pyarnu Boogie an extreme takeoff with naked skydivers - the idea was accepted with PLEASURE.
Eventually the skydivers of our club started to take an active part in annual air-shows in Kuressaare, Tartu, and Pyarnu (Estonia). On one of the Pyarnu air-shows the parachutists V.Skidan and O.Skvortsov (and later the parachutist I.Kravchenko) made a jump with an Estonian flag (total area of the flag = 125m) for the first time in Estonia.
During summer periods the skydivers of the club took part in Boogie in Volosovo (Russia), as well as in jumps from AN-28 in Elgawu (Latvia).
Since the fall of this year (1998) the club offers training jumps for the beginners. The instructor V.Skidan is responsible for this training program. In the first training program the jumps were made with the parachutes D1-5U (the parachutes are assembled by well-qualified instructors). In this program those interested in making the jump are instructed just before the jump - the whole program is completed in one day.
In February 1999 our club began to offer the training programs also during the winter period with the take off in the Tallinn airport and the drop zone in Juri (Estonia), 10km from the airport. ]
On August 7-8, the skydivers of our club took an active part in the opening of the Rapla aerodrome - twenty take offs on the aircraft L-410 were made in these two days.
On August 14 a jump in the tandem with the instructor V.Skidan made Leida Sevruk, who was 86 years old at that time. This moment was pictured by Russian television, since the Granny was in really good shape.
In the same year, 1999, a skydiver of our club S.Nelzin took part in the record of Russia - 100-way formation. |
